BRINGING A TASTE OF THE HIGHLANDS TO THE LOWCOUNTRY.
Tucked just off the breezy coast of Tybee Island, The Kelpie Bistro & Pub blends Southern charm with a whisper of Scottish folklore. Inspired by the mythical kelpie—a shape-shifting water spirit known for its mystery and strength—our bistro brings bold flavors, rich traditions, and a touch of magic to every plate.
At the helm is Chef Gordon Card - born in Canada, raised in the US, but brought up under Scottish tradions - started his culinary journey in earnest with a trip across the Atlantic. Gordon opened his first restaurant on the rugged Isle of Skye, Scotland—an experience that forever shaped his approach to food. There, he fell in love with the soulful depth of Celtic cuisine, the value of local ingredients, and the pub culture that brings people together.
Gordon’s love for cooking was sparked early by his father, Stuart, who was raised in Edinburgh and was a passionate home chef. Whether cooking at home or traveling the world, Stuart made it a point to learn about local food, always bringing new flavors and stories back to the kitchen—an influence that still guides Gordon’s cooking today.
Now back on his home coast, Gordon brings that spirit to Tybee—where Lowcountry seafood meets Highland comfort food, and every dish tells a story. From fish pies to traditional Scotch eggs and craft cocktails kissed with Gaelic flair, The Kelpie is a cozy gathering place for locals and wanderers alike.
Come for the food. Stay for the folklore.
